"I’m dedicated to the use of creative collaboration and intensity in order to tell compelling stories - through management, writing, and performance.”
/ Matthew Ircink /
Matthew is a theatre artist based in the Pacific Northwest. Growing up taking acting classes and performing in children’s theatre, Matthew fell in love with the craft. Through time, their interests expanded from onstage to backstage, and the behind-the-scenes work it takes to put a show together. Since then, production and stage management have been their areas of focus, though Matthew continues to practice acting, play writing, and stitching work.
Background & Experience
Matthew was first introduced to the inner-workings of theatre at the age of eight. Starting as an actor at Village Theatre KIDSTAGE, they learned basic collaborative theatre skills to form the foundation of their work. Matthew was given the opportunity to explore lighting design and production management while working with Village Theatre, and has since began stage managing as well. Matthew began their production management career with the creation of a student-run cabaret funded by the Seattle-based non-profit, foundry10, in 2016. In the fall of 2016, the first reading of the play 78 Minutes premiered at foundry10, which Matthew co-wrote along with Autumn Lambright, Michael Nutting, Chelsea LeValley, and Erin Hyatt. In the spring of 2018, Matthew began working as a stitcher in the Western Washington University costume shop, learning costuming, sewing, and garment alteration techniques. The summer of 2018 brought Matthew the chance to production manage once again, this time on a production of Bring It On: the Musical at Village Theatre KIDSTAGE. That fall, they stage managed their first production - Snapshot, directed by Jay Chavez, and continued stage managing at Western Washington University and in the city of Bellingham through 2019. After graduating with a BA in Theatre Arts, Matthew was employed by Village Theatre KIDSTAGE as their interim site coordinator. Over the course of the pandemic, Matthew worked as a Zoom Administrator for KIDSTAGE, as well as a camp intern for Stone Soup Theatre. Matthew is currently stage managing It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play for Edmonds Driftwood Players.
